Scary Stories (Series) by Alvin Schwartz
2. Daddy’s Roommate by Michael Willhoite
3.
I feel like an update is in order here because a lot of shit has happened in my life in the past few weeks.

First and foremost, I can finally call myself an upper classman, which is totally awesome. Cranked out two Bs, a B-, and an A- last semester, finally boosting my GPA to over a three. Talked with my faculty adviser and it turns out since I knew what I wanted to study all along, I only have three more classes and a capstone left for my major! Whew, pressure's off! Also definitively cemented my minor, which I decided should be history (considering I had already taken a couple history classes and I only have to take four more to fulfill the requirements in their entirety).

I'm living in Worcester this summer like usual (although I am updating this from No Sto, good ol' convenient hometown only an hour away). Just like last summer, I don't have internet, because I've been kicked out of Clark housing until the fall semester and I'm too cheap to actually pay for it. I'm living with a bunch of vegan chicks in an apartment and all of them are pretty easy on the eyes, except for the excruciating fact that they lack hygene and don't shave their armpits. Okay, that whole last sentence was an exaggeration except for the easy on the eyes part. I'm still a sucker for a pretty face.

Which led me to conclude that a distancing from Jessica was in order considering we were living so far away, so we decided to take it easy on the relationship stuff until school started again. I'm so pathetic though, I've cracked already and am going up to visit her soon! Which requires riding on a ferry! Yay! Ferry Ride!

Saw Weird Al for the ninth time the other night, which was awesome! Listening to a lot of the following lately: Billy Bragg, Mischief Brew, Stiff Little Fingers, Johnny Cash, Eric Bogle, DOA, and Leftover Crack - whose new CD with Citizen Fish is only sub-par at best even though the track with Jello Biafra is cool :(

We're looking at the fucking motherload of a summer tour here too. I'm predicting it to be the best show of the summer, so all you people go to these:
The Street Dogs & The Tossers - July 5th in Boston and 6th in Hartford
I know that personally, I will be at both.

BTW -
Nobody go see that movie Bug.

So I was sitting in my English seminar this afternoon with about twelve of my peers and Professor Neuman and we're all in a circle chatting about the reading for this week, Little Women. So anyway, one of my classmates brings up this totally feminist post-modern reading of the book that somehow found its way into the back of the Norton edition called "Dismembering the Text: The Horror of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women" that's like all about how the March family enters a period of self-zombification after Beth's death, and (this is the biggest stretch I've ever heard of save maybe this homo-erotic reading of Melville's Ambiguities whose main argument was based off the portrait of Melville's father having an insanely large erection or something) that Jo's soul, after the death of her sister, through sub-text of course, dies and her body inherently assumes that of the late Beth.

And then out of nowhere Professor Neuman, well she just goes... "Wow, that's so Hellraiser!"

If you were me you could understand why this was so funny.

Regretably this injury caused the late cancellation of the March 14 opening New York show at Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan. The Pogues, including Shane under constant medical supervision and analgesic control, appeared at the March 15 show as scheduled. Shane was able to perform without excessive pain, so the remaing two shows of the tour will take place as scheduled.

The Pogues would like to take this opportunity to wish their fans, friends and supporters all over the world a very Happy St Patrick’s Day.

The Antiquarian Society is mega-cool. Just spent a good couple hours there researching the advent of nineteenth century penny papers, the sensationalism they used, and the moral criticism that arose surrounding them. And you know what Clark? I had fuckin' fun!

Everybody, by the way, needs to go see Grindhouse right now before it's out of theaters and those stupid greedy Jews the Weinstein Brothers break the DVD release up into two different movies. Everybody go get the original theatrical effect for yourself right now! You won't be disapointed. Alright, well, you might be with Quintin Tarantino's movie... but let's face it, that guys a fucking flamer anyway. I'm going to just come out on the record right now and say the only two good movies that guy ever directed were Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, and now those two movies have such a shitty Q-T Cockboy Fanbase that they're not even cool anymore.

Fuck You Quintin Tarantino.

And while I'm on the subject.. I just want you to know I'm on to your shitty little game. Endorsing and executive producing movies you don't even have jack shit to do with just so they can slap a "Quintin Tarantino presents:" in really big font on the movie poster. Like Hostel. What the fuck was that. Do you even read the script before you endorse shit? That movie sucked balls. I wonder how much the payoff was for that.

Robert Rodriguez owns the fucking shit out of you. I for one will be buying a copy of Planet Terror when it comes out, because that movie fucking kicks ass. I think I'll skip on the Death Proof though.
Classes I'm taking this semester include the following:

History 145 - US History Through The Novel
Music 102 - Music Of the Classical and Romantic Periods
English 181 - Major American Writers II
English 283 - Scribblers and Novelists

This is a completely different schedule than last semester when I took the Short Story and MBW and News Writing. I didn't have to read one novel for school all semester. Now I have to read all of these novels by the end the April:

Louisa May Alcott - Little Women
Saul Bellows - Seize The Day
Louise Erdrich - Love Medicine
William Faulkner - The Sound and the Fury
William Faulkner - The Unvanquished
F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby
Nathaniel Hawthorne - The House of the Seven Gables
Ernest Hemmingway - In Our Time
Henry James - The Turn of the Screw
George Lippard - The Quaker City
Herman Melville - Pierre
Frank Norris - McTeague
O.E. Rolvaag - Giants in the Earth
Harriet Beecher Stowe - Uncle Tom's Cabin
Mark Twain - Pudd'nhead Wilson
Edith Wharton - The House of Mirth
Harriet Wilson - Our Nig
Richard Wright - Native Son

Plus two more that I don't know the names of.

So needless to say, I won't have that much time this semester for pleasure reading. Which is fine by me so long as I'm keeping my pupils and retinas active. My only other homework this semester are the essays and to listen to Opera music.

Man, I can't believe they're giving me a degree for this shit.

Attn: Wes Craven

You need to stop.

You are ruining your legacy.

Not only did I hear a couple weeks ago about The Hills Have Eyes 2 remake, but today, I found out that Wes Craven has signed a four picture deal with (obviously) some ass-raping money hungry studio. This deal also includes remakes of Shocker and Last House of the Left, boosting the number of Wes Craven horror remakes out there now up to four. That's four fucking classics (well, alright, The Hills Have Eyes 2 has always sucked) remade for no apparent reason to me but to appeal to a new, rich gore-hungry teenage generation. Whatever could you possibly be thinking Wes? It's not like anyone is going to make Last House any better than it was. How could you possible expect the remake to affect people in the same way? How could it possibly disturb people the way it did back in 1972? How could they possibly make the classic 'pee your pants' line any more poignant?

You are ruining your movies Wes, not to mention that you haven't directed a good one since Scream. What's up with you just being on production staff nowadays anyway? Fuck that.

Please stop Wes,
From your biggest fan,
Jerry
